Re-writing is just as fun as creating your own. Especially if you feel that you connected with the literary work a lot.

This is an excerpt re-write of a short story by Flannery O’Connor, “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” This is the scene where Bobby Lee and Bailey are alone, talking.

Bobby Lee: Why you so sure you coming back, boy?

Bailey: Because my ma said your friend there is a good man. Good men don’t shoot fathers in front of their sons. We are in a predicament; that is, we are in need of a hospital. We have to finish our family trip. This side trip wasn’t even supposed to happen. We didn’t see you and the rest of the crew; we’ll be on our merry way.

Bobby Lee: We ain’t scared you gonna rat us out. Old Misfit and I just want to have a little fun. Life is all about fun and games; ain’t it, Bailey? Your pa don’t seem to understand that. Must have been a hell of a ride with him. That mammie of yours don’t seem to shut up, either. Just listen to her yapping away, even in a life-threatening situation.

Bailey: Don’t talk about my ma she’s a good woman! A lady just like my wife and little girl. We have to go. Family time is a wasting. Just help us get our car in order. We be out your hair in no time.

Bobby Lee: That’s an awfully good shirt. Nice and colorful. Looks fun, too. Looks just the size for Misfit; he likes colorful shirts.

Bailey: Here, just take it. Gonna need to take it off at the doctor anyway. It’ll be nice and warm, too. It’s getting darker now; that cold is gonna set in.

Bobby Lee: Well, thank you kindly. Why don’t you say goodbye to baby Bailey? . . . . . Now goodbye to you, too. . . . . A good kill puts a man in a singing mood “Go to sleep you little baby. Go to sleep you little baby. You and me and the devil makes three, don’t need no other loving baby.”
